Treatment That is Fair, Just, and Welcoming to All

LGBTQ+

We are a minority-owned business committed to providing affirming care to our LGBTQ+ clients including creating a safe space where all expression is normalized and celebrated. LGBTQ+ minorities have the highest rate of substance abuse and addiction of any minority group in the US as they face unique environmental adversities that can contribute to addiction. We recognize that the interventions we provide must be appropriate to our client’s lived experience and must be trauma-informed, shame-free, and affirming.

BIPOC

Black Indigenous People of Color are vastly underrepresented in addiction treatment. We recognize that systemic racism, which is more likely to incarcerate than treat racial minorities, is a significant factor. The lack of representation further fuels divisiveness as treatment centers with good representation (both staff and clients) can be hard to find. Our treatment philosophy is rooted in understand that adversity, including racial discrimination and oppression, are risk factors for developing a substance use disorder. We are committed to offering a safe, culturally-informed treatment environment for racial minorities.

Women

Women are also underrepresented in addiction treatment due to stigma and their traditional role as family caregivers. Women are often balancing work, child rearing, or caring for an elderly family member. Women have been socialized to place others needs before their own. Though this is not universally true, we recognize this is a cultural norm that deeply impacts many women’s ability to recover. One study found that when outpatient treatment was made available online, women represented 80% of the treatment population vs. 20% with in-person treatment. We have intentionally designed a hybrid online/offline program that gives women access to care while managing work and family responsibilities.

Not all minority populations are represented here including religious minorities, undocumented people, and other cultural, ethnic, and class minorities. We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive treatment experience to all, including making referrals that support a client’s desire for representative care. We believe it is our responsibility to educate ourselves and continually grow our awareness of minority experiences in order to provide the best care.
